Utilizing Outside Research

My Experience

Having World History as a class this year has definitely given me new experiences that I could utilize in the future. One of these skills being able to utilize research for projects and other presentations. One of the most popular assignments throughout the year are infographics.

Most of our infographics were assigned with no information given to us by our teacher so we had to take it in our own hands (the class) to develop the content of our infographics. Most of the time the assignment had some sort of guideline to follow, but for the most part most of our information was found by ourselves. The hardest part about utilizing outside research in my opinion is finding a reliable source. Anyone can do a quick google search but it takes a good eye to spot out the bad eggs in the list of websites.

One of the common misconceptions I learned about research is the utilization of Wikipedia. I've always been told not to use Wikipedia, but I've used it a couple times as a last resort and the information wasn't off at all. We had discussed our content as a class one period during a review session and some of the content he talked about matched up with the page on Wikipedia. Obviously with all good there is a bad side so not all of the pages on Wikipedia are correct. For example, Azelia Banks changed Skai Jackson's page on Wikipedia to ridicule her. It all really depends on what you're researching too,

Overall, the biggest takeaway from this experience is to look at sources carefully. I feel as if this skill could be applied everywhere in life. For we could examine gossip with the same eyes/ears as we do looking at sources we use for our projects to ultimately find the truth behind the teenage lies formed in social enviroments. Examining sources could be applied to lies, research, or anything else. Just as long as everything matches up and the creators of the source are credible, everything will be fine.

Be careful, and look closely at what you use as a source. Always look at everything you use critically with percision and make sure everything is reliable and reputable.
