My Experience with Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl
My Experience with The Lord of the Flies
This novel gave me new insight on how I think about fellow students at my high school. The story revolves around a teenager that deliberetly tries to remain invisible from any social situation possible to avoid conflict. I've noticed how there are a lot of people I don't know in my classes and it didn't make sense to me why becasue I am usually friendly with every student I come across. The concept of remaining invisible gave me the idea that some students at my school feel like they need to hide and shelter themselves because they were scared or wanted to avoid other humans. I used to believe that there was something wrong with how I apporach those people, but I realizied it could just be that they don't want to deal with me. Overall it taught me that not everyone desires to be my friend, and I'm okay with that.
One of the books I was assigned in my Englsish 1H class was the Lord of the Flies. The plot revolved around a group of stranded kids surviving on a desolate island with limited resources. I thought it was clever how the author William Golding used children because it allowed instinctive survival decisions to be made by the kids. They often fought with each other over survival proving that humans only care about themselves. Their selfish behaviour resembled how people will do whatever it takes for themselves and ultimately their happiness (survival). Conclusively, Lord of the Flies made me realize how much people care for themselves more than their peers.
